Seiki Systems, the specialist provider of real-time production management solutions for 20 years, has released a completely redeveloped OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) module as part of the latest version of Seiki NMS, the company's Networked Manufacturing System.

The OEE module has been redeveloped to meet the needs of businesses that increasingly recognise the shop floor not just as a production area but an internal profit centre. Having the ability to interrogate reliable, actionable, real-time data collected directly from the shop floor is central to this yet many companies either cannot collect this in real-time or only collect part of the overall data available to them. The Seiki OEE module as part of the Seiki NMS bases its calculations on access to logged records taken directly, in real-time, from each machine on the production floor. By accurately including the often missed small events and avoiding mis-recorded data, a business can base decisions to optimise the use of its assets while minimising waste on factual and complete historical information.

Given the sheer volume of data that a shop floor generates, the Seiki OEE module as part of the Seiki NMS provides a powerful yet intuitive series of analysis tools to enable the most informed and intelligent decision making. Knowledge about the business can be easily accessed with manufacturing performance data viewed, summarised and analysed via a dynamic dashboard as well as easily customisable, detailed reports. Areas where losses can be reduced or even eliminated can be readily identified using the three metrics that comprise a company's OEE. In some businesses the Availability metric will identify that downtime is the largest area on which to focus attention. Alternatively, other companies find that their performance against standard times is poor, identified via the Performance metric leading to a review of standard times and the reasons for the deviations. With the analysis of the Quality metric a company can identify the time lost manufacturing non-conforming parts. In total the Seiki Systems OEE module allows fine tuning of measures to improve overall performance on the shop floor as well as identifying areas which will provide the greatest ROI (Return on Investment). This business intelligence can help inform strategic business level decisions such as capital and plant investment.

Paul Lane, Sales Director for Seiki Systems comments on the potential of the OEE module:

"This new version offers a more flexible and configurable means of analysing the raw in-process shop floor data.  Data views and report formats can be stored for reuse with more effective means of gauging real-time efficiency and determining the contribution of the factory resources over any period.  The system's performance indicators allow the end user to dispense with the traditional vicious circles of manual data collection and calculation. Now they can have a cohesive virtuous circle thanks to our automated data collection and management analysis tools."

The new Seiki OEE module as part of the latest NMS Analysis Suite is available now and via a database upgrade is compatible with earlier releases of NMS.
