The 7th edition of the "Transport Research Arena" (TRA 2018) research conference will be held on 16-19th April in Vienna.

Around 3,000 experts from all over the world will be discussing the latest developments in the areas of traffic, transport and mobility during this time. "I immediately see this conference shaping the future transport R&I strategy at the European Union level. In this respect, I hope that major policy messages can and will be brought at the highest political level for adequate discussion and eventually for implementation.", stresses Clara de la Torre, Director for Transport at the Directorate-General for Research & Innovation, European Commission.

The topics will range from automated driving to zero-emission ships and aviation innovations. Ingolf Schädler, TRA 2018 Conference Chair and Head of Innovation at the Austrian Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology states "The content of this key event covers the really 'big trends'. The themes of automation and digitalisation of all types of transport are just as important as decarbonisation. The motto of TRA 2018 is "A digital era for transport - solutions for society, economy and environment".

TRA 2018 will feature more than 600 oral and poster presentations in total. This event also aims to increase interaction between participants. Several exhibition areas are offered to cover a space of more than 7,000 square metres. In the special "Interactive Zone", research results will be brought to life and start-ups will be given the opportunity to present themselves internationally. In the cluster of Austrian stands at the exhibition, known as the "Austrian Village", around 30 Austrian companies and projects will together present their competences and visions of mobility of the future.

The range of topics is enormous and includes technical areas such as environment and energy efficiency, vehicles & ships, alternative propulsion systems, smart urban mobility & logistics, passenger mobility (systems and services), transport and logistics, transport infrastructure, networked and automated transport, digital technologies for transport, safe and robust transport systems, as well as the human dimensions of transport, socio-economics, innovation and politics.

TRA is a platform for representatives from politics, research, industry and administrations and deals with all modes of transport and their infrastructure.
