Toshiba has announced dynaEdge DE-100, a new high-performance Windows 10-based mobile edge computing device, alongside the companion Assisted Reality AR100 Viewer smart glasses.

Designed to bring hands-free wearable working to the enterprise, the new solutions will enable large enterprises to improve efficiency, quality of performance and operating flexibility in a constantly evolving working environment. dynaEdge DE-100 and the AR100 Viewer smart glasses will target industries with a strong focus on frontline and field-based workers, including manufacturing, logistics, and maintenance.

Out-of-the-box remote expert software, including Skype for Business integration, will be further complemented by the announcement of a long-term partnership with Ubimax GmbH, the global market leader for enterprise wearable computing, whose innovative solutions will be rolled-out on the device.

"We are proud to be at the forefront of the wearable-enterprise space, introducing the first monocular Assisted Reality solution to combine the power of a Windows 10 Pro PC, the robust feature set of industrial-grade smart glasses, and industry-specific workflow efficiency provided through our partnership with Ubimax," said Maki Yamashita, Senior Vice President, PC & Solutions EMEA, Toshiba Europe GmbH. "This blend enables us to deliver next-level workflow and efficiency optimisation to frontline workers."

A new vision of efficiency

dynaEdge DE-100 is a lightweight and fully portable intelligent and mobile edge computing device which offers the power of a full performance PC through its 6th Generation Intel® Core™ vPro™ processor. Running on Windows 10, the solution can be easily integrated into the existing IT infrastructure, while simultaneously benefitting from the support and security delivered through Microsoft updates to the platform. A rechargeable battery provides life of up to 6.5 hours (depending on configuration and usage conditions) with a single charge. This is also removable, enabling workers to achieve all-day operation whether on the move or in the field by simply switching it with a replacement if required.

"Technology has created a new world of work empowering employees to have unprecedented performance-enabling access to information based on their mobile workstyles," said Tom Garrison, Vice President and General Manager of the Desktop, Commercial and Channel group at Intel Corporation. "Mobile edge devices powered by the Intel® Core ™ vPro™ processor bring more innovation to employees and IT by delivering the performance for maximum productivity, enhanced security and remote manageability for IT. It also enables new possibilities including the application of artificial intelligence to frontline workers."

Combined with the comfortable AR100 Viewer, developed in partnership with Vuzix Corporation, frontline workers can benefit from unhindered and hands-free connectivity, with the device boasting the latest Wi-Fi, Bluetooth® and GPS technologies – enabling the smart glasses to connect to the corporate network, send and receive data, stream live video and track assets.

The Toshiba Vision DE Suite caters for remote expert usage scenarios out-of-the-box through integration with Skype for Business. This allows frontline workers to not only share files, but also their first-person view via images or live video, creating remote assistance and collaboration opportunities. Toshiba is committed to continually evolving and expanding this functionality, along with industry-specific workflows, through its partnership with Ubimax.

Ubimax: A long-term strategic partnership

"We are delighted to partner with Toshiba and believe the combination of its technical expertise with our long-standing wearable experience will enable us to increase the acceptance and uptake of wearables in industry through innovative and ground-breaking solutions," said Jan Junker, Chief Commercial Officer, Ubimax. "Our installed base of more than 200 customers will now also be able to run their existing Ubimax solutions on the Windows 10-powered dynaEdge. We're excited to develop this relationship on a long-term basis and will be announcing further integrations in the coming months."

The Assisted Reality AR100 Viewer Kit contains AR100 Viewer itself, a USB Type-C cable, a cable clip, a holster, and a carrycase. Additional accessories will also be available targeting different vertical use-cases and preferences of how to mount the AR100 Viewer.
