After the completed centralisation of their logistics at the site in Erfurt, Koch, Neff & Volckmar GmbH (KNV) and Koch, Neff & Oetinger Verlagsauslieferung GmbH (KNO VA) combined their logistics services under one roof for the first time.
A significant part of the money invested in the construction of the new logistics center KNV Logistik was assigned to automation. The total volume: Over 150 million euros.
The media wholesaler has up to 700,000 shippable products in stock at all times and delivers them to retail customers and, being a service provider, their end customers as well. To this end, all warehouse areas of the complete facility were linked with the modern information technology of the logistics software specialist inconso. At the core lies the warehouse management system inconsoWMS eXtended (aka inconsoWMS X) that monitors the capacities in the areas via a sophisticated dashboard system and ensures transparent goods management in the logistics center, replenishment warehouse and future reserve storage.
In addition, inconsoMFS (material flow control) secures high process transparency, a location-specific stock overview and continuous status tracking of the available products, including along the 21-kilometer-long conveyor system. Moreover, the company also uses another solution of the logistics software specialist in the approximately 11,000 m² freight center, i.e. the shipping & dispatch system inconsoSDS, which supports the selection of the most suitable carriers and freight forwarders while taking the specified freight costs and freight forwarder-specific routes into account.
After the successful implementation of the system components, the new logistics center went live at full capacity in 2016. In September 2016, about 1,100,000 items were shipped in one day – KNV Logistik's best day so far. With the high level of mechanization and the new system landscape based on inconsoWMS X, inconsoMFS and inconsoSDS, KNV and KNO VA are can flexibly respond to future challenges.
