Transporeon has received ISO 27001 certification as one of the first provider of cloud-based logistics solutions.

Is my data secure? This is a question that is especially important to users of cloud software. Transporeon has recently provided a good answer to this question. The company operates a web-based logistics platform that networks shippers with their transport service providers.

For the secure operation and service provisioning of this platform, Transporeon has installed an information security management system. This system has been certified according to ISO 27001:2013 as of June 2016. As one of the first companies of its sector, Transporeon makes its high security claim clear with this certificate.

"At Transporeon, we have had high security standards for years. It was still important to us to have our information security management system audited and certified by an independent testing body," Ahmet Arslan, Managing Director of Transporeon GmbH, explains. "In the process, not only were technical security requirements inspected, but many organisational topics were inspected as well. Information security is more than IT security. We meticulously check who we employ, who may make changes in which system or who has access to our offices. In addition, we continuously sensitise our employees in training, for instance, in how to handle passwords or how to work securely when outside of the office," Ahmet Arslan says.

For nine months, Transporeon worked intensively on developing an information security management system (ISMS) in accordance with ISO 27001:2013 from existing and supplemented measures. In May 2016, TÜV Rheinland audited the company and certified the effectiveness of its information security management system, which is used for the secure operation and service provisioning of the Transporeon communication platform. The certificate is initially valid for three years and supervisory audits will be performed annually.

As a whole, networking along the supply chain is continuously increasing, making these systems more susceptible to security risks. Many companies are aware of this situation and pay more attention to security when selecting partners, especially when sensitive data is being sent to external service providers.

In the process, customers are not always able to verify every single security aspect. "From our viewpoint, the certificate offers our customers the advantage of profiting from our information security management, without any expense and efforts of their own. We are pleased to be one of the first companies of our sector to fulfil ISO 27001," said Ahmet Arslan.
