Sumerian, the UK-headquartered predictive capacity planning analytics provider, has been named as "the rising SaaS star in Capacity Management," following an independent study by Research In Action, the independent information and communications technology research and consulting company.

The research, which surveyed 1,380 IT buyers, asked participants to rank Capacity Management Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and software companies according to how their products and services helped them in the strategy and execution of their IT Capacity Management function.

The study, which concluded that the importance of Capacity Management is growing as IT Service Management matures, ranked Sumerian as the top vendor out of 15 specialist and large portfolio players for Capacity Management strategy, customer satisfaction and price versus value, and fourth overall. The results highlighted Sumerian's highly differentiated and innovative SaaS-based offering, along with the important gap it fills in the ServiceNow ecosystem, as contributing to its strategic edge over its competitors.

Sumerian's CPaaS is a cloud based subscription service that enables IT teams to instantly visualise their current capacity position, take proactive action based on predicted future capacity events and model planned change to assess its impact. By providing statistically accurate insight, organisations can rightsize capacity, improve performance and reduce costs, ensuring business continuity and an IT infrastructure adaptable to change.

Dr. Thomas Mendel Ph.D., Research In Action Managing Director and ex VP and research director at Forrester, said: "Sumerian is the big surprise in this evaluation, with organisations across the board appreciating its innovative SaaS approach which can be deployed almost instantly. Ranked alongside bigger players including HP, CA Technologies and BMC Software, they have a huge opportunity for future growth going forward."

Peter Duffy, CTO Sumerian, said: "We are thrilled that Research In Action's independent study found that businesses place Sumerian in such high esteem, and recognises Sumerian as the innovation leader in the market. These results highlight that there is a real need for specialised Capacity Management companies to step forward and provide the focus and dedication needed for large organisations attempting to plan their increasingly complex and distributed IT environments. IT departments must have visibility of their entire IT estates regardless of location, and be able to accurately assess the impact of planned change to assure future service performance and support business expectations."
