BEC (Systems Integration) Ltd., the UK-based supplier of data capture solutions for supply chain logistics and manufacturing, has won a Voice-enabled Warehouse Management Solution (WMS) contract with Horseware, one of the world's best known manufacturers of riding wear, leisure wear, horse rugs, equestrian products and accessories. Horseware is the latest of a number of large Irish-based customers for BEC, following in the footsteps of Cuisine de France (Aryzta AG) and Ornua (Irish Dairy Board).
Due to a period of rapid business growth, Horseware's Movex ERP system and the paper-based method that it was using to record the movement of goods around the warehouse were not providing the company with the level of functionality required to cope with new levels of demand.
Having looked at a number of solutions, Horseware chose BEC to work with them to install a brand new WMS with Honeywell's Vocollect Voice software, having seen Voice solutions in operation in other apparel warehouses. The new system will be used in the company's picking, put-away, stock movement, dispatch and replenishment operations.
In a Voice-directed warehouse system, operators use a wearable computer with a wireless headset to receive Voice-enabled instructions. The Vocollect Voice solution integrates with Horseware's Movex ERP system over a wireless network, and the worker confirms his or her actions verbally back to the system in real time.
Philip Jarrett, director of sales and marketing at BEC, explains, "Conceptually, Voice-directed technology is very similar to traditional RF scanning, but prompts are delivered and responses are provided verbally. The Vocollect Voice solution can help businesses increase worker productivity by up to 35 per cent, while reducing errors by up to 50 per cent."
With a proven and trusted track record in supplying and implementing Voice technology within a range of warehousing and distribution centre applications, BEC is a specialist provider of future-proof and innovative Automated Data Capture solutions designed to integrate seamlessly into any host ERP system to fulfil business and commercial requirements. Its WMS has been developed with Voice technology at its core, rather than as an add-on feature, allowing Horseware to use the benefits of Vocollect Voice software throughout its warehousing facility.
Jarrett concludes, "We are delighted to have been awarded this contract with such a well-known and renowned company as Horseware. The project is going really well so far, and we are looking forward to further extending the project in the future."
