With the release of PTV Vissim 6, the PTV Group has, it claims, 'conquered the Mount Olympus of Traffic Simulation'. The software vendor with headquarters in Karlsruhe, Germany, reports that it has invested a great deal of time to develop a new basic architecture of its traffic simulation software, which has undergone a major redesign. In addition to a modern user interface design, users will benefit from faster network coding and easier data access via lists, quick views and programming interfaces. A webinar series which takes place from 15 - 22 August will demonstrate the new features of PTV Vissim 6.
By redesigning the basic architecture, the software developers have brought PTV Vissim closer to the transport planning software PTV Visum. "These improvements might not be immediately visible, but users will definitely benefit from faster implementations," says Dr.-Ing. Axel Leonhardt, Director Product Management PTV Vissim, PTV Group. The first thing one notices when opening PTV Vissim 6 is the new user interface with its modern and clear design. Thanks to its flexible window concept, any number of network editors, lists and other windows can be grouped and moved to different positions inside and outside the main window. According to Leonhardt, the revised operating concept of Vissim 6 enables users to work more effciently. "Each user can tailor Vissim to suit his or her particular needs."
Faster network coding improves efficiency
The new features of the network editor enable faster network configuration. For example, single objects can be selected and made visible directly by means of the enhanced network object bar. "Moreover, it provides immediate access to the graphics parameters so that views and colour schemes can be edited easily," comments Leonhardt. "Only the elements that the users need are shown in the network."
The re-design of the basic architecture is another factor which contributes to increased efficiency: it allows users to access all object data via lists, the quick view and the COM interface. Changes to properties of one or more selected objects in lists and in the quick view take effect immediately. Another convenient feature is the option to edit the network and the associated data in parallel.
Analysing results directly in the software
Results have so far always been provided in separate files. In PTV Vissim 6, they can now be accessed directly, allowing users to display results of one or more simulation runs in a list. "In addition to lists, it is also possible to present the simulation results using different colours or as labels of the corresponding network elements," says Leonhardt. How many vehicles pass the measuring point? What is the speed for a specific stretch of road? These results can be highlighted in different colours or shown as labels so that black spots can be identified quickly.
PTV Group will present the new Vissim 6 features in a free fast-track webinar. The English webinar will take place from 15 - 22 August. Moreover there are German, Spanish and Chinese webinars available. Those interested can register through the webpage http://tinyurl.com/PTV-Vissim-6-Webinars
