Logistics consultancy, Davies & Robson has completed a successful transport review and tender process for manufacturer, Rettig (UK).
Rettig UK is a subsidiary of Rettig Group Ltd, a Finnish company based in Helsinki. The company is Europe's leading marketing and manufacturing group focused on radiators and under floor heating, as well as valves and controls for heating systems. Products are manufactured in 15 Rettig plants in 11 different countries across Europe. Within the UK, the company has manufacturing plants at Hull and Gateshead and markets products under the Myson, Purmo and Vogel & Noot brands.
The company's UK distribution operation is centred on the Rettig Distribution Centre located at Birtley near Gateshead. Product is received from Hull and Gateshead and manufacturing sites in Europe and Turkey. Inter-site transport and deliveries to customers are outsourced to a single logistics contractor under a long-term contract. Distribution is particularly demanding due to the wide range of sizes of product.
As part of a regular evaluation of its operations, Rettig invited Davies & Robson to review its transport arrangements to ensure the operation represented both 'best in class' and value for money. This involved reviewing the services currently available in the market place from a wide range of different transport contractors, reviewing the service requirements and preparing a representative data set, selecting a limited number of suitably qualified contractors to take part in a rigorous tender process, preparing the necessary tender documentation and managing and evaluating the results of the tender process.
Davies & Robson also carried out a detailed review of the contractual terms in order to produce a revised contractual agreement, designed to be demanding but fair to both parties.
Following detailed negotiations and discussions, Norbert Dentressangle was re-appointed as Rettig's UK transport contractor under a new three year agreement.
