After reaching agreement at Post-Expo 2012 in Brussels, Vanderlande Industries and Major Express of Moscow have now signed the contract for an automated parcel sorting system.
Major Express is a privately owned express parcel company located in the Russian capital Moscow. With an exclusive two-year contract from FedEx for the Russian market together with its own organic growth, Major Express decided to automate its sorting process.
One-and-a-half years ago Major Express was invited by FedEx for a visit to the FedEx site in Cologne, where they were able to see a Vanderlande Industries sorting solution in action. The visit made a strong impression on the board of Major Express. To support the continued growth of the business, Major Express found a new location for their operation.
"Based on the future goals and requirements of Major Express and the layout of the new location, we organized a couple of workshops together with the customer. This resulted in the best possible sorting solution for Major Express", said Lodewijk Reineke, Area Director Parcel & Postal of Vanderlande Industries.
The solution chosen consists of a Crossorter 700 combined with 60 chutes for parcels and 120 chutes for documents. The system is designed to handle a total capacity of 9,000 parcels per hour. The new sorting system will be operational in July 2013.
