Advantech-DLoG's TREK-743 mobile data terminal has recently received Control Engineering China's (CEC) best product award. CEC's publications are aimed at the manufacturing industry and its awards honour solutions to automation, control and instrumentation challenges in the Chinese market. The TREK-743 is a 7" industrial vehicle mounted computer suited for use in a variety of in-vehicle and fleet applications.

CEC has been issuing awards to equipment providers since 2004. The Chinese language magazine and website publishes business to business, technology and manufacturing information. Each year the publication issues Best Product and Editor's Choice awards. This year Advantech's TREK-743 was selected as the Best Product. Key factors in the decision were the TREK's fanless, compact design, which is built to meet a variety of vehicle applications, its wireless capabilities, programmable function keys, a rugged industrial design with an aluminium chassis and its ability to share data in real-time with back-end services.

WWAN support that knows no boundaries
The TREK-743 is built with advanced WWAN support. It supports multi-band, 3.5G Sierra RF, GPRS communications and can be equipped with modules to support CDMA and HSDPA. This support allows the TREK to provide real-time voice and data availability to vehicle fleets with fast wireless communications across a variety of network topologies. With TREK-743 fleet managers and central dispatchers can stay in contact with drivers and their vehicles no matter where they are located.

Industrial design - Water and dust resistant
TREK-743 is built to withstand harsh vehicle environments which can be wet and dirty, subject to transient power conditions and temperature extremes. TREK-743 operates effectively in temperatures ranging from -20C to 60C and it has an IP65 rating, making it well suited to a variety of in-vehicle markets such as long-haul trucking, taxis and buses, emergency vehicles or mining and harbour management - environments in which dust and water resistence are mandatory for reliable computer operations. TREK-743 also meets power rating standards set by ISO and SAE specifications with features such as power on/off delay and ignition control built in to the design. The TREK-743 now also supports a Linux based solution, creating an alternative to Windows and offering more felxibility to system integrators.
