Field services provider ByBox has taken its promise to move data and parts securely and safely even further by employing a Director of Security who holds over two decades of senior security experience.

Peter Wilkins has previously worked with the London Metropolitan Police, Sainsbury's, MFI, Unipart and DHL, and since 1988 has been working at a senior level in the commercial security sector.

Peter was impressed with ByBox and its security measures. "I am looking forward to working for such a young, growing company which already has such a robust security system in place," he said. "ByBox is growing day by day and I look forward to the challenge of trying to improve the current processes."

ByBox currently makes over 20 million deliveries to 18,000 drop boxes nationwide in the field service market for companies such as Coca Cola, Ricoh and Konica Minolta. The company ensures the security of parts by using the Thinventory software platform, which gives complete visibility of the supply chain at all times; it allows customers to ascertain the whereabouts of a part whether it is being loaded onto a van, has been delivered or is in the process of a return, in which case the exact time and date is recorded.

One of Peter's main roles as Director of Security will involve looking after the innovative new service myByBox, a service which allows consumers to use ByBox' vast network to receive personal deliveries. The service, available to all, will ensure consumers never miss another delivery and recently to make the service even more convenient, ByBox, together with Network Rail have launched a series of parcel collection points and electronic boxes in major mainline stations across London. They are currently available at Victoria and Euston Stations, with Paddington, Liverpool Street and St Pancras to follow later this month and 1500 sites to be in use by 2014.

ByBox takes the security of parts and deliveries very seriously and is regularly audited by its customers. ByBox' pre-employment screening is undertaken for all staff that have the opportunity or requirement to handle customers' stock. This screening process exceeds the minimum requirement of the Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS).

Additionally, ByBox uses an x-ray scanner to check all consumer parcels prior to delivery. The parcels enter the network through the ByBox Coventry depot and as well as being scanned, one in five is hand searched. These heightened security measures have been put in place to react to customers' needs and ensure the utmost security for both customers and employees.

With the launch into the consumer market, ByBox recognises that there are new challenges ahead. Facing these challenges head on, the appointment of Peter, together with his vast knowledge and experience in security, shows the forward thinking and guile that has attributed to ByBox' success and made them a truly pioneering company.
