Epicor Software Corporation has announced that Baker Perkins, manufacturer of technology to the food processing industry, has chosen Epicor 9, the next-generation enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution from Epicor.

Baker Perkins selected Epicor after a thorough evaluation process of multiple vendors that involved several presentations, demonstrations and reference visits. The company currently runs several disparate systems to manage its business processes, including an incumbent manufacturing system that doesn't fully support its scheduling processes.

Throughout the world, shop and supermarket shelves are stacked with foods made on equipment supplied by Baker Perkins. In the bakery, biscuit, confectionery, snack and breakfast cereal sectors, many of the world's leading brands rely on technology supplied by Baker Perkins. This independent company operates from two sites in the UK and the US. To help them better expedite their manufacturing schedules, gain more detailed analysis across their two sites, and integrate their system across functions to reduce data re-entry, Baker Perkins has chosen to implement Epicor ERP.

Bob Collin, project manager for Baker Perkins, explains, We chose Epicor because it was felt to be more project-oriented than other products and this is extremely important to us because capital manufacturing projects form the basis of our business. Epicor will help us move away from our current disparate structure with different parts of the business using different software systems, to a situation where we all access data from a single source."

Some of the major criteria that Baker Perkins used throughout the vendor evaluation process included how well the system could handle scheduling, particularly in the factory and to expedite purchase orders, the availability of real-time information, the opportunity to refine and improve business processes across the business in the US and the UK, as well as the ability to reduce data re-entry and enable staff from various areas of the business to query the same data.

"It is very difficult to select a complex solution based on just limited overviews by the vendors," said Collin. "We therefore decided to go through a detailed selection process, starting with forming a cross-functional team, building a user requirement specification document, going through demonstrations with vendors using our own data, as well as doing several reference visits to see the short listed systems in action. Epicor gave us the confidence that they will be able to deliver the requirements we need in order to streamline our business and gain measurable efficiencies."

"We are delighted to see yet another market leading manufacturer choose to implement Epicor 9, providing further evidence of its attractiveness and value to industry worldwide," said James Norwood, vice president of product marketing for Epicor.
