Epicor Software Corporation, a leading provider of enterprise business software solutions for the midmarket and divisions of Global 1000 companies, announced that Symmetry Medical has selected Epicor Manufacturing as its fully integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution to assist process efficiency across the entire enterprise.

Symmetry Medical comprises three leading specialist medical manufacturing and distribution companies, each with enviable reputations for supplying precision surgical and medical equipment built to the highest standards. With many products being highly customisable, agility and flexibility is as essential as traceability throughout the entire manufacturing process as well as consistency of quality in terms of product and service.

The company had a number of disparate systems in place for both manufacturing and financials and had no real visibility as to the real-time status of the business. Lacking the facilities in-house to appreciate where, what and which jobs the company was making money on and which ones it wasnt created decision making challenges. The accuracy of on-time deliveries was also affected by the lack of visibility as the company found it very labour and time intensive to find out the real-time status of jobs and customer orders against any planned schedules.

This led to a comprehensive review of a range of alternative system with Symmetry Medical recognising that the only acceptable system would have to be a fully integrated solution that would address the existing challenges and bring wide ranging benefits across the entire group of companies. Other key requirements were accurate, powerful planning and scheduling capabilities for the shop floor which would provide improved customer service, real-time job costing and visibility into Work in Progress (WIP).

Epicor Manufacturing was ultimately chosen due to the functional closeness of fit to the business and its ability to adapt and grow in step with any future changes to Symmetry Medicals business environment. The company was also impressed by Epicors 90-day guaranteed go-live commitment which would ensure against a lengthy and intrusive implementation period. John J Hynes, COO (Europe) of Symmetry Medical comments on the companys expectations of Epicor Manufacturing. "We wanted a solution that we could trust. We already have Epicor in a number of our 19 facilities worldwide, and this fact coupled with the solutions proven integration capability provided us with a known entity that can expand and integrate as our business grows. Inter-site communications and system integration is becoming ever more critical to our capacity planning, supply chain management and ultimately our competitive performance. We wanted a solution that provided all of these things and we wanted it implemented in our Sheffield facility in a very short timescale. With Epicor, we know we will get precisely what we need."
