Systems Labelling have invested a six figure sum in ground-breaking quality inspection technology.

The unique system records every label image and checks it against the pass sheet. Any imperfection is marked within the software file and automatically stops on the finishing unit during the slitting process, any defect labels can then be removed prior to shipping. Systems Labelling are the only label printer in the UK using this system that is integrated with a bespoke Management Information System providing absolute and unique control throughout the production process.

The software developed by Surfscan Technologies (based in Cardiff) integrates with a bespoke management information system to create roll maps on press, linking production and inspection in real-time. Over 200 hours of programming were required to meet the precise needs of Systems Labelling. Surfscans Damian Harvey commented our programming team is the only team in the world capable of meeting the software demands of this project. We are very pleased with the end result.

Complex algorithms written by Surfscan distinguish this system from standard off-the-shelf inspection packages. Following a successful 3 month trial perfecting a prototype the software has been installed on all six of the 8-colour flexo presses and their dedicated finishing units. Since the installation there have been zero print rejects from customers. Systems Labellings Managing Director Steve Pickford takes real pride in this accomplishment. The bespoke management information system developed by the label printer internally can provide transparent and real-time service to its customers. The system streamlines the entire business, from order intake to programming work at every stage of production through to despatch. Just three people in the Customer Service Team handle all of the day-to-day scheduling removing the need for layers of production management.
