Logistics provider Import Services has added a new home delivery service to its operation after signing an e-fulfillment contract with internet retailer OnlineSalesDirect.

The Southampton-based logistics firm now manages the storage, order fulfillment and home delivery for the e-tailer which sells a diverse range of retail goods from furniture, air-conditioning systems to off-road motorbikes and memory foam mattresses.

Import Services is a respected logistics provider in the business to business retail market, particularly in toys, gifts and sports/leisure products. This new contract marks its expansion into order processing and dispatching goods direct to consumers.

OnlineSalesDirect was set up in 2004 by Joe Williams and is based in Bournemouth.  From the website it sells sought-after retail products, sourced directly from the Far East, offering huge reductions over most high street prices.

The massive demand for the online retailers new and exclusive collection of memory foam products, including mattresses, toppers and pillows coupled with business development plans to expand into the wholesale sector - prompted Mr Williams to reassess the storage and distribution operation.

To cope with higher volumes, I considered whether to upsize my staffing and existing warehouse facility in Bournemouth or outsource some of my storage/logistics requirements. Import Services ticked all the boxes, I was impressed with its commitment to bring the operation in-line with the excellent service we offer customers in-house, the proposal to have ongoing reviews to ensure this continues and the cost-effective solution.

Import Services has a massive capacity available on tap and you only pay for the space you are using, which is more economical than paying for your own fixed space.

Many daily routines are automated at OnlineSalesDirect enabling us to have a streamline setup with minimal staffing.  Currently, a daily orders file is sent to Import Services who dispatch products the same day from its Southampton base. A new e-commerce system is in development which will send orders directly to Import Services seconds after payment is made, for an even quicker turnaround.

Customer satisfaction is essential to my business, and I have to ensure customers receive the quality products they ordered, intact and on time.  I needed a logistics firm to provide a quick and efficient service, added managing director Joe Williams.

Client services director at Import Services, Mike Thomas, commented how impressed he was with OnlineSalesDirects approach to business development, product marketing and drive for quality of service to customers - which matches Import Services own ethos.

The OnlineSalesDirect contract marks the logistic firms commitment to this new home delivery market:  We are keenly involved in developing web-shop systems and back-end order fulfillment for online retailers and home shopping clients, said Mike. From our well established base in the business sector Import Services now brings expertise in volume processing, handling and distribution of goods to the consumer home shopping arena.
