Within months of using a SYSPRO ERP system from K3 McGuffie Brunton, engineering and heat treatment specialists, Meltham Mills Engineering Ltd, is reaping the benefits of exceptional business reporting.

Peter Fletcher, Marketing and Operations Director for Meltham Mills says: The benefits of the system so far, in particular accountability and reporting, have been enormous. SYSPRO ERP with its advanced reporting system means we have our finger on the pulse of the business, allowing us to know on a day-to-day basis exactly where we are. The system produces exceptional reports.

But then Meltham Mills Engineering Ltd is an exceptional company, having developed over 50 years of engineering and heat treatment excellence. It provides comprehensive heat treatment and metallurgical services to the precision engineering industry. The company is a leading supplier of fully machined, heat treated and surface finished power transmission components to the worlds leading earth moving and agricultural vehicle manufacturers.

Since taking over in August 2005, the firms current management have focused their efforts on the needs of their customers. Major investments have been made in lean manufacturing, CNC (Computer Numerical Control)/ CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine), to produce tighter production times, and the introduction of a core SYSPRO ERP system.  SYSPRO has provided Meltham Mills with the ability to identify company-wide operational expenditure and significantly reduced costs.

SYSPRO ERP went live on 1st January 2007, with day 1 of the implementation seeing Meltham Mills Engineering become operational. Peter Fletcher said: I am pleased to report that the factory moved forward without a single problem.

The financial functions for the accounts department were implemented in the second month, while at the same time user expertise within the factory was improved, including slicker data entry, learning short cuts and so on. By the end of March, the company was making use of the information gathered by and presented by the system.

Meltham Mills Engineering is already planning to extend its ERP system with shopfloor data capture high on the agenda. This phased approach to expanding SYSPROs use will enable the company to utilise shopfloor information and gain full traceability of products and material and the necessary audit trails.
