Leading multi-channel retailer reaches key milestone in company-wide rollout of Manhattan Associates supply chain solution

Leading supply chain solutions provider, Manhattan Associates, Inc. has announced that Argos Direct, the delivery to home operation of Home Retail Group, has completed its implementation of Manhattan Associates' Warehouse Management solution at its 650,000 ft Marsh Leys distribution centre in Buckinghamshire, which serves the whole of the south of England. Manhattan Associates' Warehouse Management for Open Systems is now running in two of Argos Direct's three distribution centres. The first full implementation took place in the company's purpose-built Faverdale distribution centre near Darlington, which serves northern England and Scotland. The company intends to implement Manhattan Associates' technology in its third warehouse, at Acton Gate, Staffordshire, in May 2007.

The implementation of the solution, complemented by radio frequency (RF) technology from Psion Teklogix, is already bringing benefits in terms of reduced clerical work, enhanced operational efficiency, improved order accuracy levels and higher levels of customer service. The smoothness of the implementation has been remarkable because the Manhattan Associates Warehouse Management solution replaced an existing legacy system, a transition process which can be disruptive if not managed effectively.

"We decided to avoid a 'big bang' approach," explained Pete Connor, IS director for Home Retail Group. "Instead we meticulously planned and sequentially executed a progressive handover to the new system, supported by Manhattan Associates' consultants. This deployment methodology along with a clearly defined approach to data migration enabled us to transition to the new application extremely smoothly. Because of this approach, we were able to hand the support function back to our operational team within two weeks of completing the implementation. No deliveries were affected during the process - we did not miss a beat. This is testimony to the great planning, execution and commitment of the team and sets a very high standard."

"We are very proud of the success we have achieved with Argos Direct at both Marsh Leys and Faverdale, and look forward to working closely with the Argos Direct team on their third implementation at Acton Gate next year," commented Allen Scott, UK managing director at Manhattan Associates. "Home Retail Group is one example amongst a rapidly expanding list of companies in the UK and around the world that are deploying Manhattan Associates supply chain solutions to support their multi-channel retail initiatives as they look to exploit the opportunities presented by a retail revolution that is gathering pace."
