DEMATIC TAKES HOLD OF WMS MARKET

Dematic Limited, a name which has been synonymous with the leading edge logistics automation market for many years, has announced it is selling WMS (Warehouse Management System) solutions as standalone packages.

Previously, the Banbury-based company only supplied software as part of complete turnkey projects that also incorporated Dematic automated handling technology.

Explaining the decision, Thomas Borghoff (pictured), managing director of Dematic Limited, said: The logistics automation market is now very much a software-driven environment. Given our experience and expertise in delivering successful WMS packages for some of the UKs most demanding supply chains, it clearly makes sense to begin marketing the software in its own right.

To drive forward the new strategy, Dematic has created a new sales channel concentrating on the software side of the business. This is headed by Deborah Pope, who is responsible for sales of Dematics WMS across Northern Europe. Reflecting the established strengths of the companys software portfolio, key markets will include blue-chip retailers, FMCG manufacturers and e-commerce/catalogue-based fulfilment centres. The Dematic WMS is developed by an experienced team of logistics software engineers, who have supplied software to a client list that includes Tesco, DHL, Dixons and Unilever.

Outlining the benefits of Dematics approach to WMS design, Deborah Pope said: Dematics logistics software is based on a building block philosophy.
