Christian Salvesen nominated for RFID Breakthrough Awards

European logistics company Christian Salvesen has been nominated for a series of technical innovation awards for its ground-breaking use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology.  Nominations include Best RFID Business Case Award and Best RFID Integration Award at the RFID Breakthrough Awards 2006; a prestigious gala dinner held at the Banqueting House in London on 8th November 2006.

Nominated by their RFID systems supplier Secureseal, Christian Salvesen has made significant gains in operating efficiency from a RFID-based system.  Roll out of Secureseal system began in September 2005 and the system now provides real time visibility on the location of 1500 Christian Salvesen trailers with a detection network extending 45 sites in the UK.

The system was designed from the ground-up using newly developed low power RFID tagging technology linked to GPRS communications.  Providing a straightforward 'site location' solution, the system eliminates the need for costly units and infrastructure and cost up to 75% less than conventional trailer tracking systems.

The annual RFID Breakthrough Awards are the world's first and foremost RFID awards, existing to celebrate achievement and reward success of organisations using the technology.  Last year over thirty organisations were nominated and winners included Marks and Spencer and Virgin Atlantic Airways.
With an ever-increasing focus on the end-user, this year's awards are focused on how organisations are actually using the technology, rather than those that are providing it.  The Awards 2006 are organised in conjunction with the 7th RFID Networking Forum, which will be taking place on 09 November at London's Olympia 2 Conference Centre.  To find out more, please visit and
