Psion Teklogix, a global provider of solutions for mobile computing, wireless data collection, imaging and RFID today announced that it has signed a 210,000 contract to install an integrated wireless and voice hardware solution alongside AquiTecs Warehouse Management System and Vocollects voice solution at East Anglia Federal Co-Op Society Limiteds 140,000 square foot Ipswich-based warehouse.

The installation will feature Vocollects innovative voice picking technology alongside Psion Teklogixs Workabout Pro handheld mobile PCs and is expected to deliver a 20% increase in efficiency and accuracy.

Psion Teklogixs Workabout Pros will be used to check-in and scan newly received goods.  Once the items are ready for picking, workers will use Talkman T5 speech terminals to guide them through the process informing them of the required pick location and how many of each item to pick. When all the products have been selected, the Workabout Pros will be used again to check the cages onto the waiting lorries.

Cisco wireless access points located around the warehouse will transmit all wireless data from the Workabout Pros and Talkman T5s back to a central server, where AquiTecs warehouse management software will organise it and provide real-time information on the location of all goods and progress against assigned jobs.  The entire process will ensure that all products are logged electronically from the moment they arrive in the warehouse until they are driven out again for delivery thereby improving accuracy and efficiency at each stage.

Steve Bentley, IT Manager at EAFCS explains:  Precision is absolutely vital when you consider the scale of our operation; we dispatch ambient goods to 200 stores across East England.  Now that weve opted for Psion Teklogixs mobile wireless solution with automated data capture and the very latest voice picking technology, we expect to see accuracy and productivity increase by at least 20% and to gain a significant return on our investment within 18 months.

Duncan Smillie, UK Managing Director for Psion Teklogix concludes:  We are extremely pleased to be selected above the competition for this prestigious contract.  Aside from being able to demonstrate market-leading technology and fast tangible results, we were chosen because we could offer a one-stop-shop for all EAFCS mobile computing requirements and support them with a single after sales package with no reliance on any third parties.  This helped with EAFCS decision to switch from its paper-based operation to a fully electronic mobile-based solution that will deliver measurable long-term benefits to the company.
