UNIPART award multi-million pound contract for Masternaut telematics

UNIPART Group, one of Europe's leading independent logistics, automotive and accessories companies, has invested 2.5 million Pounds in a web-based satellite vehicle tracking system from Masternaut.

The Masternaut system actively monitors the real time locations of more than 1,500 vehicles delivering measurable gains in improved customer service, operational efficiency and management information.

Using GPS technology to establish the exact location of the vehicle and GPRS to continuously transmit the position of each vehicle Masternaut enables managers to instantly locate any vehicle in the fleet. The position of each vehicle is displayed online using Microsoft MapPoint street mapping and managers can access this information using a secure login, from any web enabled PC.  Activity logs for each vehicle are sent by email as part of the Masternaut service enabling measurement against key performance indicators (KPI) and the application of 'Six Sigma', a data driven management policy that is in use throughout Unipart.

"Masternaut will significantly boost the productivity of our operations which will bring significant benefits to us and our customers. It will also enable us to improve fuel consumption by cutting out mileage, giving us measurable savings while reducing our impact on the environment." Said Keith Robson Unipart Automotive Group Director of Transport Systems. "By identifying every vehicle's movements we can provide complete transparency on delivery activities to help us provide even better service to our customers." Continued Robson.

Unipart Automotive is the UK's largest independent supplier of aftermarket components. Supplying nationwide high street names such as Nationwide Autocentre and Kwik Fit, the company also directly supports 1,300 independent owner operated garages. The company's fleet of delivery vehicles operate from a nationwide network of more than 300 branches offering a '30 minute delivery' promise against an extensive range of stock items. This commitment to customer service is enforced by the contract with Masternaut as the progress of parts between branch and customer can be tracked in real time via the Internet. The Masternaut service will also provide assistance if a van breaks down.

"Having trailed a number of systems we were impressed with Masternaut at all levels." Said Robson. "Not only do they have a great product and a commitment to their clients they are also driven to continuously improve both, demonstrating an excellent fit with the Unipart culture."
