EPC Class 1 Generation 2 serial firmware version for UHF readers by FEIG ELECTRONIC available now

Half a year after distribution of the first beta version, the Generation 2 firmware for OBID i-scan UHF reader ID ISC.LRU1000 and the reader module ID ISC.LRMU1000, is now available as a serial version.

FEIG ELECTRONIC has been distributing the first serial version of the Gen 2 firmware for the OBID i-scan UHF readers since the beginning of August. The firmware is available as a firmware upgrade for all customers, who have ordered an OBID i-scan UHF reader ID ISC.LRU1000 (ID ISC.LRMU1000). The functionality of the Gen 2 firmware beta version was extended gradually between January and July 2005 and tested sucessfully by several customers. So, a serial firmware version with full functionality is awailable now.

The current EPC C1 Gen 2 reader firmware version supports all forward link communication rates from 40 kbps up to 160 kbps and all return link communication rates from 40 kbps up to 320 kbps the subcarrier modulated return link rates for Dense Reader Mode are supported, too. Due to these abilities the reader offers high anti-collision rates of up to 400 tags per second in single reader operation and up to 150 tags per second in multi reader operation according to EN 302208. The readers anti-collision ability is determined by passing of more than 100 tags trough a typical dock door gate.

The reader offers in both versions, EU- and FCC version, read- / write ranges of up to five meters by using transponders, tuned according to the particular regional frequency. Compatibility and interoperability of the reader firmware was successfully checked and confirmed by tests with tags of several manufacturers.

The reader suports all mandatory and optional commands of the EPC class 1 gen 2 specification; the commands can be executed by the well known OBID i-scan ISO host protocoll. This protocoll enables system integrators to manage a fast and easy changes from ISO 18000-6-B oder EPC class 1 Gen 1 tags to EPC class 1 Gen 2.
