Eagle Eye Telematics Plc and Sidewinder Europe Ltd have joined forces to develop an automated solution to track and plan all stages of the delivery process, in real-time. This allows companies to keep their customers informed of product availability and ensure prompt and efficient deliveries.
The new system combines Sidewinders real time planning and resource optimisation capability with Eagle Eyes tracking and communications technologies to allow companies to manage capacity needs and therefore optimise productivity.
The joint application has been designed to track and log the exact location and movements of each delivery. The feedback of information from the vehicle allows the planning system to monitor and optimise in real-time the execution of the plan, thus enabling all resources to be more effectively utilised. This not only results in customers getting their goods more quickly, but enables companies to offer their clients precise delivery times, as opposed to morning or afternoon. They can then be informed of the progress of their groceries delivery or any delays in vehicle recovery as they happen.
The tracking technology from Eagle Eye detects not only when the vehicle is moving but also what it is doing. When a certain pattern of movements (such as backing into a loading bay) is detected the planning system is alerted and is able to log that the delivery has moved on to the next stage. The complete automation of the system ensures less reliance on manual feedback from employees or contractors, thus reducing the risk of human error. The system can, for example, automatically notify the customer, by SMS or email, that his or her delivery is only 5 minutes away.
With this level of integration operations and customer service can now see and manage what is happening in the field as it happens. The unexpected can be managed proactively and crucially the customer can be kept informed, said Andrew Hunter, commercial director at Eagle Eye Telematics Plc. The ability to measure the actual against the plan in real time makes this an incredibly powerful tool.
Individually, Eagle Eye and Sidewinder are industry leaders in their fields and although their systems are not new in themselves, together, they bring benefits to another level, transforming the way activities are viewed, logged and actioned, said Derek Brown, sales & marketing director at Sidewinder Europe. For companies with strict time constraints and a desire to offer unequalled levels of customer service, this is an essential planning tool and a vital source of an audit trail.
