Lister Petter, international manufacturer and distributor of industrial engines and generator sets, has placed an order valued in excess of 300,000 with business software specialists CPiO for a complete, new enterprise resource planning (ERP) system that will manage the organisations manufacturing and distribution business.

Over 100 users, managing over 500 customers and 50 million in product sales per annum, will have access to the Sage Line 500 system, enabling Lister Petter to improve efficiency and productivity, whilst streamlining its financial systems. Overall, the system will provide Lister Petter with better management information and will allow for the development of sophisticated business intelligence reporting.

The investment in the new ERP technology comes off the back of a significant international growth period for Lister Petter both organic and through acquisition - and will provide the organisation with a single system to help manage its ongoing growth.

Bryan Draper, Lister Petters Group Managing Director explains, As an organisation, we are committed to investing in leading technologies that can lend us a competitive edge. Our existing ERP system was too complex and expensive to run. We recognised that Sage Line 500 would provide us with the tools we needed to grow the business and at the same time would be simple to use for all our users, both in the UK and internationally.

The new system, which will replace Lister Petters existing Baan ERP system, uses Sage Line 500 manufacturing, distribution and business intelligence software. It will be implemented at its head office in Dursley, Gloucestershire, onto an IBM x445 server running Microsoft SQL, which will employ the latest disaster recovery protection technology. The system will then also be rolled out to its US, French and Indian subsidiaries.

Lister Petter has a 150 year history as a manufacturer of industrial engines and agricultural parts, and now employs over 400 people in operations across the UK, USA, France, India and China. Today, the organisation specialises in producing advanced diesel and gas-powered engines, generator sets, pump and welding sets to organisations in a range of sectors including the marine, military, agriculture, construction, telecoms and electricity markets.

CPiOs consultants have implemented phase 1 of the solution, providing implementation consultancy, project management and an education programme to support the full roll-out of the software and systems. In addition, CPiOs consultants will help Lister Petter to manage the transition to the new systems, developing new reporting and implementing the business intelligence tools that will support Lister Petters management development and decision making. This implementation of the Sage Line 500 system will enable Lister Petter to improve financial control, streamline its business processes and will significantly reduce the ongoing running costs of the entire ERP system.

Draper concludes, We set CPiO some pretty tough milestones to meet in the initial implementation of the system. Not only did we have a complete hardware and system change, we had to all our staff trained and all the file conversions done in a timescale of seven weeks. Today, nine weeks later we have been operating the system for a fortnight with no anticipated glitches and no material issues.
