VoiteQ, the UKs leading software supplier of voice recognition applications for warehouse and distribution firms, has helped Internacionale-Au Naturale to achieve a 15% efficiency increase in their warehouse. With warehouse operatives Picking up to one million units a week to support its 135 stores across the UK, the Talkman T2 solution has further enabled Internacionale to increase accuracy by 10% and reduce manpower by 15%.

The Fashion and homeware retailer has transformed the efficiency and accuracy of their stock replenishment process by the adoption of Talkman voice activated radio frequency (RF) technology supplied by VoiteQ. They achieved an initial return on investment within the first year of implementation and are now working with VoiteQ to automate every aspect of the warehouse, with a goal to reduce wastage by 1%, delivering several hundred thousand pounds to the bottom line.

Prior to installing Talkman, Internacionale used a traditional paper-based picking note system. The system was not streamlined and did not provide adequate visibility across stock levels. It could not provide up to date information as to how much and what stock had been picked.

Isabel McCabe, IT Manager at Internacionale commented, Managing the warehouse staff across the three tasks of picking, replenishing and putting away newly delivered goods was a major challenge, especially at peak times. On a weekly basis, Internacionale can pick anything from 750,000 to one million units.

Unfortunately with the paper based system we had no visibility of pick size when the warehouse shift started at 6am.It could be 25,000 units or 125,000 units. There was no traceability of documentation or stock position and with 30 million in stock at any one time this lack of information was proving critical.

With sales increasing year on year and store numbers expanding Internacionale needed a more efficient and effective approach to warehouse management. It turned to VoiteQ and the Talkman T2 voice activated wearable technology, manufactured by Vocollect Inc. The terminals provide hands free, eyes free radio frequency mobile data collection. Worn on the belt, Talkman T2 utilises speech recognition and synthesis technologies to provide the pickers with real time communication to the replenishment system.

As picks are made, workers can confirm their actions with a few words. VoiteQ developed an interface between Prologic and VoiceMan, VoiteQs market leading middleware software linking to Talkman, so that replenishment information is now fully visible, allowing warehouse managers to plan the warehouse activity far more quickly.

McCabe continues, At 6am, the warehouse managers have complete visibility of the size of the pick, down to pack level. Throughout the shift, the real time link between Talkman and our Warehouse Management System ensures not only that stock levels are updated in real time but also the pickers know how much stock is still required to be picked prior to shipping to the stores. The voice system is foolproof, and we can now introduce new staff to the warehouse within a day where previously it could take up to three weeks.

McCabe concludes, We are now intending to extend our relationship with VoiteQ to achieve further efficiencies across warehouse operations, from product receipting to scanning goods as they are loaded for distribution and on arrival in store. Our aim is to create a completely integrated, traceable process.
