NAVTEQ (NYSE: NVT), a leading global provider of digital maps for navigation systems and location-based solutions, has been chosen to join the 121 Systems Ltd (121) logistics consortium and will provide map data for all the companys routing, scheduling and telematics solutions.
121 has taken an innovative approach to business development by choosing one key partner in each supporting element of its logistics software solutions. In addition to NAVTEQ, the company is collaborating with the Maple Group and US based UPS Logistics Technologies (UPS-LT). 121 has a European business development alliance with UPS-LT and is also its sole UK reseller.
121 Managing Director, Chris Sisson explained, "In general, software companies tend to work with a broad range of partners. However, we believe that by working with what we consider to be the very best available in each supporting category, we can develop a stronger and closer relationship with a better understanding of each others products and work together as a proven team with proven technology.
Using a modular approach, 121 offers solutions from routing and scheduling through to telematics. Customers can choose to start with one module and add to it if and when required. In-cab hardware installation is handled by the Maple Group with Roadnet Transportation Suite (RTS) from UPS-LT used for routing and scheduling. 121 acts as a one stop shop, pulling the whole project together including sizing, implementation and support.
"The map data is a critical element in the whole process," added Chris Sisson. "And it will become even more important as the EU Working Time Directive comes into force. We chose to use NAVTEQ data because of its accuracy and simplicity of conversion and integration. It reflects real world road networks and their associated navigable attributes which makes it ideal for routing and navigation. It also offers flexibility with updates available quarterly, every six months or annually."
Roadnet Transportation Suite
RTS is a fully integrated software solution providing seamless transfer of information between strategic planning (Territory Planner), daily routing (Roadnet 5000) and real-time wireless dispatch and GPS tracking (MobileCast ). UPS-LT also offers eRoadnet, an intelligent "real time" order scheduling engine as well as an enterprise-wide planning, routing, and reporting system through Roadnet Information Centre (RIC) in a Roadnet Enterprise Edition environment. 121 is the exclusive supplier of this product in the UK and is actively looking for VAR partners across Europe.
