Freight Traders shows its "metal"

Freight Traders continues to expand in the metals sector having recently conducted a tender on behalf of the Corus Group for their Unit Load Exports from the UK.

The tender was conducted in the Autumn of 2004 and resulted in Corus achieving its savings objectives across six of its business units: Engineering Steels (CES), Corus Tubes (CT), Corus Strip Products (CSP), Construction and Industrial (CC&I), Packaging Plus (CPP), and Cogent.

Corus tendered an annual volume of over 1.8 million tonnes to 24 destination European countries. Over 1500 routes were tendered in total. The tender process took less then 12 weeks and included a carrier pre-qualification phase, followed by an online tender and final negotiations with carriers. The implementation was successfully phased over two months and was completed before the end of 2004.

Corus Engineering Steels European and UK Transport Manager, Paul Hayes said; "Freight Traders provided the platform for Corus to combine our European transport flows from various business units. Previously these units had purchased their freight requirements separately. As a result we were able to take our flows to market in a short space of time. The on-line pre-qualification process and the tender design contributed significantly to us achieving our demanding objectives."

Freight Traders UK and Republic of Ireland Market Manager, Mark Parsons follows; "The Corus tender proves how effective Freight Traders can be in bringing together previously remote buying functions within the same company. It also proves yet again, that the Freight Traders process and extensive carrier community can successfully support tenders in industries other than our proven FMCG heartland."
