PALL-EX UK AND SIMS WORLD-WIDE LOGISTICS SECURE JOINT LOGISTICS DEAL

Sims World-Wide Logistics and Pall-Ex (UK) Limited, the UKs No.1 Pallet Distribution Network, have today jointly announced a significant new deal with SAF Oerlikon UK Limited. Under the agreement, Sims World-Wide Logistics will provide the transport for SAF Oerlikon and Pall-Ex will provide the warehousing, inventory management and order picking. For Sims this highlights the companys commitment to provide the most complex outsource solutions for its customers, and for Pall-Ex the agreement will see the company formally diversifying its activities into the logistics sector with the launch of the Pall-Ex Logistics brand.

SAF Oerlikon UK Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of Paris-based Air Liquide Welding, part of the worldwide Air Liquide industrial gases and welding group. Based at Daventry, SAF Oerlikon UK company distributes and sells welding consumables, machines, and automation equipment across the UK and Ireland. These products come from Air Liquide manufacturing facilities located across Europe. The award of the logistics contract to Sims follows SAF Oerlikon UKs strategic decision to concentrate on its core business and leave logistics and transport to specialists in that field.

Dr John Garland, Managing Director of SAF Oerlikon UK said: We have been impressed by both Sims World-Wide Logistics and Pall-Exs expertise in the transport sector and their responsiveness to our requirements. They have pulled out all the stops to accommodate us and I look forward to a highly efficient and effective service. The smooth running of the Pall-Ex central hub was enough to convince us that they are more than capable of managing our operation. We expect to see significant competitive advantages arising from this move as we become able to offer our customers a better, more flexible, and frequent delivery service.

To support this operation, Pall-Ex has recently acquired a new warehouse facility at Bardon Industrial Park near Coalville, Leicestershire, only two miles from its central hub near junction 22 of the M1 motorway. The warehouse will provide 28,000 sq.ft. of warehousing space and 8,000 sq.ft. of canopy, with the option on further warehouse space for expansion. There is also 1,500 sq.ft. of office space. The warehouse will be a dedicated pallet storage facility and Pall-Ex has installed narrow aisle pallet racking with a capacity of 4,515 pallet spaces.

Welding consumables and equipment from France, Italy, Romania and other European locations will be delivered in containers directly to the Pall-Ex Logistics warehouse in where they will be stored and then order-picked for dispatch throughout the UK by Sims World-Wide Logistics.

This agreement is the logical next step for Pall-Ex. said Hilary Devey, Managing Director of Pall-Ex. It will complement our core business by adding volume to our network and, at the same time, allow us to diversify further into the logistics market. Our team has all the skills and infrastructure in place for this exciting development in our business mix.

Ken Daniels-Sims, Managing Director of Sims World-wide Logistics, commented: This is an important deal for us and a platform for us to showcase our true potential to service a major blue chip clients needs. We courted SAF for six months prior to agreement, we wanted them to be fully conversant with all aspects of our service and be comfortable the move would prove right for them. We expect SAF Oerlikons business to be the first of many such contracts in the coming months.

Sims Worldwide has evolved from a small family haulier into a global logistics provider with a keen focus on customer care, able to cope with literally any enquiry from and to almost anywhere.
