COMME DES GARCONS OPENS FOR BUSINESS IN THE UK THANKS TO EXEL

Exel, the global leader in supply chain management, has supported the retail launch and will manage the ongoing operations for fashion house Comme des Garcons in the United Kingdom.

Described as a market-style fashion and lifestyle emporium, Comme des Garcons' distinctive new 1,200 sq m (13,000 sq ft) flagship store at Dover Street Market in London's Mayfair was opened in September and is its first UK retailing venture. It is Japanese founder and brand designer Rei Kawakubo's most unconventional project to date, and in addition to its own brands, stocks such exclusive labels as Azzedine Alaia, Alber Elbaz for Lanvin, Boudicca and Raf Simons. Early customers have included Yoko Ono and Elton John.

Exel is providing logistics support from its 7,800 sq m (84,000 sq ft) shared-user distribution centre at Maidstone in Kent. As well as storage, picking and delivery, the supply chain management specialist is providing added-value services, including ticketing, the storage of store fixtures, and support for store openings.

Merchandise handled includes men's and women's ready-to-wear designer fashions, accessories, shoes, fragrances, beauty products, jewellery, furniture, art and sculpture, books, flowers and food.

Perry Watts, Managing Director, for Exel's Retail sector, said, "We are delighted to have been chosen to work with one of the most innovative fashion houses in the world. Comme des Garcons further strengthens our shared-user fashion and lifestyle logistics operations in the UK and demonstrates that the world's leading supply chain management company can provide cost-effective support for start-up retailers. Our business is about delivering success for our customers, and we look forward to growing with Comme des Garcons as it continues to develop in the UK and elsewhere."
