HHP, the worlds leading provider of image-based data collection systems, has embarked on a joint venture with Masternaut, the popular web-based information service. Masternaut has agreed to offer HHPs renowned Dolphin family of mobile computers for use with its service.

Masternauts information service optimises the management of mobile resources for organisations that rely on vehicles to run their business. It uses GPS satellite and GPRS mobile phone technology to manage the movements of over 120,00 vehicles throughout Europe in real time.

HHPs Dolphins are the most rugged devices of their type in the world. By connecting to Masternaut through an in-vehicle cradle, they become live data communication and navigation terminals that can be used by field engineers, delivery drivers and other mobile workers.

The Dolphins link with Masternauts M-Schedule and M-Delivery despatch systems as part of a real time job booking, despatch and reporting system. New jobs appear on the Dolphins screen along with route details. With connection to onboard GPS satellite receivers, step-by-step navigation can be provided to the next location.

HHPs Dolphin mobile computers use a standard Microsoft Pocket PC platform. On arrival at a location, the devices are used to collect data. They then automatically update central management systems and websites in real time, using Masternauts always-on GPRS communications.

Dolphins can incorporate both bar code scanners and sophisticated imaging technology. They can therefore read and decode barcodes, take digital photographs and capture signatures. Any information they collect is transmitted and matched to central service systems for applications such as consignment tracking, parts ordering and service job closure.

Charles Hewson, Masternauts Operations Director, says: HHPs Dolphins are an exciting addition to Masternaut, especially as we are increasingly involved in the live management of mobile resources. Many of our customers need a truly rugged device that they can use in-cab but also take onsite. HHPs imaging technology also opens up all sorts of new possibilities.
