Well known for its liquors, Grand Marnier exports 90% of its production with the majority being exported to the United States and Canada. Due to the new legislation in the USA on bio-terrorism, Grand Marnier has to locate and trace its entire production and distribution supply chain, from raw materials through to finished goods. These traceability requirements have been addressed by Aldata and its G.O.L.D. Stock software which will ensure warehouse optimisation and traceability throughout Grand Marnier's supply chain.

The pilot project is scheduled for September, with the objective of a full implementation of the traceability solutions by the end of 2004. G.O.L.D. Stock will be installed in an IBM AS400 environment in the central site of Aubevoye in the Eure region of France, which also provides the packaging and distribution functions. It will be interfaced with Grand Marnier's in-house production system. From 2005, all pallets will respect EAN 128 labelling conventions in order to ensure their traceability.

"We made the choice of Aldata for several reasons: numerous references in the same business area as Grand Marnier, a technical solution adapted to our needs and a project approach in tune with our working practices", indicates Arnaud Mabire, IT Manager of Grand Marnier.

He adds: "In addition to the aspects of traceability and warehouse optimisation, the expected benefits achieved with G.O.L.D. Stock are multiple: improved inventory management, standardisation of many warehouse functions, better storage and flexibility in forklift truck driver operations due to the automation of some functions".

"Grand Marnier is a perfect example of profiting from the opportunity of combining the integration of legal requirements on traceability with a re-evaluation and optimization of logistics business processes. Aldata's research and development teams are particularly active in the area of traceability: prototype models and pilots have been implemented, some of which have been effected by the business consortium 'Smart Tracing' in which Aldata is one of the co-founders" says Robert Husset, Deputy General Manager of Aldata Solution S.A.
