CE versus DOS in your warehouse

Windows CE based mobile computers have been available for some time for use in industrial automatic data capture and wireless computing applications. Many customers with warehouse applications are now selecting Windows CE devices over DOS based units. Why? What are the advantages? What are the things to look out for? Some early projects have tried force square pegs into round holes devices designed for field applications have been used in warehouses. Does this mean Windows CE in the warehouse is a bad thing? Does using Windows CE mean a "paradigm shift" in the use of mobile computers in the warehouse, or just an evolutionary step towards functionally richer and more cost effective hardware?
