In software terms, Asset Management is a system designed to monitor, maintain, upgrade and track the movement of company assets. The method by which assets can be tracked are with the use of barcodes or RFID tags. RFID tags are more complex as they have the ability to have information stored and updated (write/re-write facility). RFID tags can also track the location of goods via GPS and also temperature fluctuations of goods during transit. Assets can be Tangible or Intangible. Tangible relates to both Current and Fixed Assets such as stock and inventory and can refer to equipment and buildings.
