Tesco UK selects Transporeon Group solution for inbound goods management at its UK distribution centres

Tesco UK signed a contract with the Transporeon Group for its retail division, Mercareon, to implement a cloud-based software-as-a-service solution for managing inbound logistics flows at all Tesco UK Distribution Centres.

As well as improving inbound goods handling processes at 35 Tesco facilities across the UK, this time slot management solution will provide greater transport visibility and enable Tesco UK to more easily and cost-effectively assign transport orders to a closed pool of preferred carriers.

This contract follows successful implementation by the Transporeon Group of a similar inbound goods management system at the Tesco Group's Central European Distribution Centers in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia.

The Tesco UK solution is currently under development and will go live in May 2017. Roll-out is due to complete in October 2017. "This partnership will allow us to improve efficiency and productivity across our distribution network," says John Steventon, Head of Primary Distribution UK at Tesco PLC. "Delivering clear, accurate and reliable information will ensure our products are distributed in the most efficient way to our stores and customers."

There were two key reasons for the selection of this solution: It is easy and straightforward to integrate with the existing IT infrastructure; and it includes all onboarding, consultancy, and lifetime support, ensuring a customized fit for Tesco UK.
