Transport and logistics specialist CM Downton has extended its contract with corrugated plastics packaging manufacturer DS Smith Plastics for a further two years following competitive tender.

Downton has been working with DS Smith Plastics, part of the DS Smith group, since 2014. The strong relationship that the two companies have established, along with service improvements, enhanced capabilities and cost savings made by Downton during this time, were all factors in DS Smith Plastics' decision to extend the contract.

Under the contract, Downton delivers up to ten multi-drop loads of plastics packaging each day from the DS Smith Plastics manufacturing plant in Gloucester to customers throughout the UK. A combination of stand trailers and live loading facilitated by Downton's proximity to the DS Smith Plastics plant provides a flexible solution. Delivery notifications received by midday result in products arriving at customers' locations the following day.

David Hutchings, Head of Business Development at CM Downton, said: "The relationship and track record we have built up with DS Smith Plastics resulted in the extension against strong competition. It's great for us to support another leading business in Gloucestershire and demonstrates our ability to devise and implement a flexible solution to meet a demanding customer's requirements."
