Retail technology solutions provider, Box Technologies, has agreed a distribution deal with POS printer manufacturer, Star Micronics, to distribute the Star portfolio via the Box ISV and VAR channel. Initially, the company will target the retail and hospitality sectors, with a second wave aimed at healthcare and field services. The agreement will also see Box consolidating its mobile strategy, by having access to the largest range of mPoS printers and peripherals on the market which will compliment its newly launched cielo Windows-based tablet range.

The growth of in-store tablet usage is predicted to surge in 2014 and global tablet sales to reach 147.2 million units by 2015 . Looking to capitalise on this, retailers will - inevitably - implement transactional point of sale in their outlets. With the introduction of its new cielo Windows-based tablet range and access to the large range of Star mPoS printers and peripherals, Box intends to leverage the latest phase of e-commerce. Using Box mobile technology, the entire range of a shop's catalogue may be browsed but now the assistants may remain with the customer to advise, accept credit card payment via the integrated Chip & PIN reader, complete the transaction and print the receipt.

Compatible with all the major operating systems in use in-store including Windows, iOS, Android and Linux, Star's range of mPoS printers and peripherals offer low cost WiFi printing directly from tablets, PC's or any mobile device to a Star LAN printer as well as the option to mobilise any cash drawer using the Star DK-AirCash.

Connectivity is key in today's tablet world, and Star's WebPRNT offers a low cost hardware and software networking solution that effectively removes the issues associated with web-based printing. It provides driverless printing capabilities for all receipt data, using HTML and JavaScript standards to support consistent browser printing.

Richard Elmes, Head of Marketing at Box, said: "Working with Star means that we now offer one of the largest printer ranges in the UK - in turn providing a vast choice to the end user. The new mPoS printers, coupled with the Box cielo tablet/Chip & PIN reader are competitively priced, and offer lots of additional features and benefits to close the sale."

Annette Tarlton, Marketing Director, Star Micronics EMEA, adds: "With the significant experience and expertise that Box provides across a number of industry sectors combined with our extensive range of traditional printers and pioneering mPoS hardware and software solutions, we look forward to building this relationship and further strengthening our presence within the UK marketplace."
