Pest control and hygiene products specialist P+L Systems has upgraded its UK and European Distribution Centres by implementing the Accellos warehouse management system (WMS) from BalloonOne. The software improves order picking and despatch, and provides order visibility and product traceability. The real-time wireless WMS also integrates fully with the P+L Systems SAP Business One enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
"We recognised that we needed to consolidate the business onto a single IT platform that would support future growth. We wanted accurate stock records and real-time visibility of all transactions so we knew exactly where each order was and when it was despatched," says Nick Fournier, Head of Supply Chain at P+L Systems.
"We also wanted to prevent despatch errors caused by the paper-picking lists and having to rely on the warehouse operator to be as accurate as possible, which is very difficult using manual methods."
BalloonOne worked in partnership with P+L Systems to ensure the project ran as smoothly as possible, providing the company the support it needed throughout the implementation.
"Working with BalloonOne we were able to go live in the UK and in Spain at the same time. We did perform extensive trials with more than 2,500 test transactions and, during the planning phase, we had opportunity to revise several procedures to implement best practice methods," says Nick Fournier.
"We went live in April and we were able to pick and pack successfully using the system from day one. The project is already paying dividends for the business; we have accurate stock levels and we have real-time visibility of all orders. The system is also very flexible allowing us the option to despatch from the most appropriate DC based on stock availability and this helps to protect customer service. If we run out of a product in one warehouse or don't have enough it is a simple matter to despatch from the other DC."
P+L Systems has its head office and UK distribution centre in Knaresborough, Yorkshire. It also has a European distribution centre in Spain. It develops leading brands for specialist commercial markets, including flying insect, bird and general pest control products as well as a range of commercial washroom hygiene products including hand dryers, dispensers and fragrances. Worldwide, the company has more than 3,000 customers across 84 countries. The company can provide technical support in 15 different languages and has a worldwide reach, with clients as far afield as Australia and New Zealand.
