Version 1.17 of the PTV xServer offers users many new features, e.g. for calculating the French ecotaxe, vehicle profiles in XML format or planning overnight trips. A new framework ensures better performance. Using the management console, all PTV xServers can be conveniently restarted by the administrator without requests being denied or left unprocessed. And the new code sample browser provides helpful code examples and makes developing more fun. The release is available now.

Its powerful software components can integrate geographical and logistics functions into your client-server architectures - ranging from geocoding to displaying data on digital maps through to trip planning and optimisation.

New features of PTV xRoute Server

The module can already precisely calculate the ecotaxe for France, which will be charged from October 2013 for commercial transport with a start or destination address in France. PTV xRoute Server takes into account the approx. 4,100 virtual pricing points in France. If the vehicle reaches one of these pricing points, the next section of road is recorded for the ecotaxe calculation. Furthermore, the module factors in the legal regulations for onward charging to the customer and displays the exact percentage, which is calculated based on the administrative regions driven in.

Vehicle profiles are now created in XML format. Using the inheritance mechanism, the user can easily add to available default profiles with their own child profiles. The child or grandchild profiles only contain the referencing to the default profile (parent) and the desired changes. This new mechanism also ensures that the profiles can be easily transferred from version to version. In addition to this, the complete engine parameters can be directly transferred by the client with the request (snippet mechanism). The profile snippet ensures that individual requirements can be mapped flexibly in the customer application.

New layer technology expands the routing network of the PTV xRoute Server with data contents and makes it possible to process large amounts of data that significantly influence the route planning. So different time zones for North America and Australia can be included in routing and the ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) calculation. The routes are planned more realistically, especially in conjunction with historical traffic information (traffic patterns). A separate layer also contains the preferred routes for certain vehicle types (e.g. heavy or dangerous goods transports) for better route planning. Corresponding data is available for North America and Australia.

New features of PTV xTour Server

In the current version, trip planning offers detailed setting options for planning overnight trips. In accordance with the appropriate definition of the framework conditions, PTV xTour Server compares the costs for an overnight stay with the saved costs for a return journey, optimises the trip according to this result and schedules overnight stays accordingly.

In addition, product incompatibilities can be automatically taken into account in the trip planning. This is required, for example, for hygienic reasons when transporting animals or for potentially hazardous materials. There are two options for the definition: either "Do not transport on the same trip" or "Do not transport on the same trip at the same time", with transport on different road sections of a trip still being possible.

New applications in next to no time

The new Code Sample Browser (CBS) for PTV xServer offers lots of new functions and code samples. Our goal was to make the product even simpler and more user-friendly, to keep the familiar structure and also make it fun to use. So now it is possible, for example, to create your own samples from a template so that you can test new ideas quickly. Shortcuts speed up your workflow while changing or creating your own samples. For the new release of PTV xServer, the Code Sample Browser has been expanded to include the sample map for Rhode Island, USA.
The tour animation sample is a visual treat: it uses a graphic animation to show you how trips that have been optimally planned with PTV xTour Server are carried out. Several code samples demonstrate the use of the new LeafletPlugin (requires PTV xMap Server 1.17), a convenient alternative to the PTV xServer add-on AJAX Maps. The drag-and-drop routing sample illustrates handling of complex route entries. This sample application is very heavily event-driven (mouseover effects) and thus removes some of the programming work for the customer.

The Code Sample Browser is included in the PTV xServer bundle and is also available from our website http://xserver.ptvgroup.com. There you will also find additional information on the PTV xServer and the new release.
