The partnership between international transport and logistics company Daher, and agile software development company Waer Systems, has proved to be a winning formula as the two businesses celebrate the fifth anniversary of the efficient, cost-effective service they provide to a leading aero engine manufacturer.

The initiative was put in place in 2007 when Daher was contracted to provide a third party logistics service for their customer's component manufacturing facility at Inchinnan, near Glasgow.  In order to accurately pick, pack and ship an initial average of 1,200 units a day, considerable investment in manpower would have been needed, the cost of which would not have been sustainable long term.

Enter Waer Systems – an organisation of just 10 people compared to Daher's 7,000 employees – to build a low-cost yet effective answer to the problem.  The solution, WAERlinx, comprises a set of fully integrated modules that provide warehouse management, global real-time stock visibility and a specialised kitting programme. Fast forward to today and in the past year alone, Daher has picked/packed and shipped some 69,172 lines, averaging at just over 5,700 lines per day, significantly more than the original estimate, with WAERlinx fully capable of taking the increase in volume in its stride.

Andy Smart, Project Leader at Daher said: "The system was implemented smoothly and all equipment required for barcode scanning and label-printing was provided as part of the project. Operator training was performed on-site to ensure there was no measurable disruption of day-to-day operations during the training phase. Waer has allowed us to function efficiently, track accurately, and report in the most timely fashion. Not only that but it has allowed us to deliver 50% higher warehouse throughput and outstanding service levels with no increase in staffing. It has been a key factor in our success.

"WAERlinx is not just a stock reporting tool but a management information system and after five years together, we continue to be delighted with WAERlinx and are looking forward to continued growth over the coming years."

Kim Noyce is Operations Director at WAER Systems.  She said: "Our challenge was to build a solution for Daher that would allow them to deliver a high quality service to their customer with strict schedules and no room for error.  We are proud to have completed the project on time, with no cost overruns and are delighted that WAERlinx continues to exceed requirements."
