Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the leading retailer with $466 billion in 2012 sales and Ortec, provider of innovative logistics optimisation software, will share their story and results in a webinar on 27 March, 2013, 15.00 GMT.  After implementing a route scheduling solution in 2009, ORTEC was asked in 2011 to implement a second solution to further optimise the grocery fleet domestically by optimising pallet and loads, while building optimised delivery routes.  The combination of route and load optimisation has significantly increased the monetary savings through advanced route and transportation efficiency, increased trailer utilisation and customer service.

Walmart Transportation Technology Senior Manager, Steve Simpson, will describe how Walmart redeveloped its supply chain processes by globally implementing an integrated load design and routing solution. Dr. Goos Kant, Ortec's Chief Retail & Transportation Strategist will also discuss how 7 out of 10 ten of the world's largest retail grocers have been innovating their supply chains with the same technology and how Ortec optimisation solutions have revolutionised complex retail supply chains globally.

"When developing your supply chain strategy, it is critical to take a step back and consider all pieces of the puzzle," commented Corne Aantjes, Ortec's CEO of the Americas.  "We are excited that we have been able to deliver superior results in our partnership with a visionary company like Walmart.  Our worldwide leading solutions for vehicle routing, dispatch and load building are fully deployed across the network to support Walmart's goals of doubling fleet efficiency by October 2015 against the 2005 baseline.  Imagine the impact this has on the environment we live in and the competitive prices Walmart passes on to their customers."

Walmart does more with Less

Walmart's 'Doing More With Less' initiative, supported by Ortec, resulted in deploying innovative technology worldwide that is filling the trailer, improving routing and reducing empty mileage.  With approximately 7,500 drivers, the Walmart fleet drives more than 700 million miles annually.  This equates to about 30,000 times around the earth each year.
