JDA Software Group, Inc., the supply chain company, has announced the release of JDA Assortment Optimisation, an expanded space and category management offering for retailers and their suppliers. JDA Assortment Optimisation delivers space aware item assortment capabilities, a key innovation element in the planned enhancement roadmap for JDA's world-class Space & Category Management solution suite. One early adopter is Coles, a leading Australian food retailer. Coles is a long-time JDA customer that provided input during the development process to help JDA deliver a solution that offers real-world results and truly space-aware item assortments.

Raising the Bar in Space and Category Management
JDA Assortment Optimisation is part of the integrated, industry-leading JDA Space & Category Management suite. These comprehensive solutions help the world's leading retailers and suppliers plan, execute and analyse demand-based category and assortment strategies to profitably deliver customer value at the store shelf. JDA Assortment Optimisation is the result of converging JDA Efficient Item Assortment and JDA Shelf Assortment.
"The consumer, retailer, and manufacturer all benefit from better stocked shelves with the right products, right placement, and right quantities," said Wayne Usie, senior vice president, retail, JDA Software. "With Assortment Optimisation, grocery, hardlines and softlines retailers can all upgrade the product availability and shopping experience for the local consumer without costly overstocks."
"Gaining space-aware visibility is huge, and JDA Assortment Optimisation allows true visualisation of how shoppers shop the category and helps build a blueprint for how best to meet their needs at the shelf," said Tony Lavery, space manager, systems and integration, Coles.
Advanced Functionality Sets New Standard
In addition to the convergence of legacy efficient item and shelf assortment capabilities, JDA Assortment Optimisation also features several new functional enhancements designed to further streamline the assortment process and enable:
Easier item assortment planning at any level of product hierarchies.

Freedom from prescribed measures and rules with flexible formula-driven rules to mirror strategies and tactics.

Unambiguous assortment process selection and review with multiple graphical visualisation capabilities.

Space-aware assortments and the confidence that recommended assortments will fit within available shelf space.
"The introduction of JDA Assortment Optimisation signals the first time that the industry will have true space-aware item assortment capabilities as part of a complete space and category management solution. This solution provides unmatched flexibility to meet a wide variety of business scenarios," said Raghav Keshav, chief product officer, JDA Software. "Our customers will be able to drive critical efficiencies by incorporating actual fixture information from their space planning planogram files with high-level inventory constraints and merchandising parameters. They will gain concrete visibility previously not possible into whether or not their product selections will reasonably fit into available shelf space."

"Assortment Planning, now more than ever, is a constant request from our retailer and supplier partners," said Ed Ballard, Regional Director Category Management, Southern Wine & Spirits.  "As a long time EIA user/practitioner (since 2004), JDA's Assortment Optimisation has again advanced our capabilities with the next generation of assortment tools and continues their commitment to provide industry leading assortment solutions that help us get the job done."
