Maas International opts for the All-in-One solution from Sigmax and Ortec

Maas International BV, supplier of food and drinks vending machines, is set to equip its 800 technicians with Sigmax's Field Mobility Suite, which is the next generation of mobile solutions for field service organizations. Maas will optimise their complete work order planning process with Ortec's advanced planning solutions,  Ortec Service Planning and Ortec Tactical Route Planning. And based on a logistics network analysis conducted by Ortec, Maas has also redesigned its logistics network.

Maas International's clear ambition is to lead the market as the largest and most profitable European vending company. The R&D divisions in Germany and China are working hard towards this goal by developing numerous types of vending machines to dispense hot and cold drinks and snacks for both the European and international markets. In order to be the best, Maas understands that the consumer experience is paramount. And to create this positive experience, a detailed understanding of coffee culture, and consumer behavior and tastes is required, along with an effective and efficient operation. Maas International has all of these.

"We needed to replace our existing planning software and mobile solution in order to increase the efficiency and smooth execution of the work activities carried out by our operators and field technicians," states Willem van den Berg, Managing Director at Maas Netherlands. "Our global team of operators have the task of replenishing 40,000 vending machines and this is a challenge in itself due to the sheer numbers involved. With the solutions from Sigmax and Ortec, we now have the support to increase process efficiency, even in exceptional situations."

Maas deploys Ortec's solutions to plan the work orders and create optimized routes for their operators and technicians. The software allocates all operator work activities equally and assigns the same operator to recurring jobs.

Operators in the field use Field Mobility Suite to consult their schedule and access the details of their work orders. And according to Willem van den Berg, the operators won't have any issues with the transition to Field Mobility Suite: "Our operators and technicians have been working with PDAs for 7 years and with the implementation of Field Mobility Suite the process will be even faster, more transparent and more user friendly. Operators will be able to easily record all completed work activities, any materials consumed and meter registrations. And if there is an unexpected malfunction that the operator is unable to fix, he or she can quickly log a call to the planning department so they can immediately dispatch a service technician. The handheld computer features an inbuilt navigation system that directs the service technician to the correct location."

Upon completion of the operator's work activities, Field Mobility Suite will automatically transfer all relevant data to SAP (to be replaced by the ERP system Navison next year) for further processing.

In addition to the deployment of the mobile and planning solutions from Sigmax and Ortec, Maas International has also optimized its logistics network for the supply of vending machines. "We wanted to examine the effectiveness of our operator business model and determine if our logistics network to supply the inventory locations was functioning optimally. We therefore conducted a joint analysis with Ortec in order to determine the optimal logistics model for our operations," explains Willem van den Berg.

Maas is set to initially implement Field Mobility Suite and Ortec's solutions in Belgium. At a later stage, the Netherlands, Great Britain and Germany will follow suit. The solutions will be implemented in the system language of each country and will be consistent in their configuration and level of process support. Willem van den Berg: "We are now looking at applying the new logistics model in other countries where we operate. By doing so, we will be able to leverage the full power of the solutions to support our both our logistics and planning processes and our field service operations. "
