JDA Software Group, Inc. has announced that X5 Retail Group NV has selected the company's category management solutions to increase merchandising effectiveness and revenues across more than 3,000 company-owned store and franchisee locations.

X5 is the largest in terms of sales and fastest-growing retailer in Russia, operating a diverse range of supermarkets, hypermarkets and soft discount stores. X5 has selected the JDA Category Management solution suite, including modules related to JDA Space Planning, JDA Space Automation, JDA Intactix Knowledge Base and JDA Planogram Generator.

A successful pilot program at X5 allowed JDA to demonstrate its solution capabilities, including the ability to help retailers maximise the impact of their merchandise assortments, floor plans and shelf space by making products easier to find, giving premium locations to the highest-margin products, and "right sizing" inventory to avoid both stock-outs and overstocks.

"After a detailed evaluation of various solutions we concluded that JDA category management solutions could make a significant impact in a number of key product categories that we tested," said Teimur Shternlib, Deputy CEO, Chief Business Support Officer, X5 Retail Group. "When we compared the performance of these product categories in five JDA pilot stores to their performance in five reference stores, the difference was clear. As a result, we have chosen to implement JDA solutions to optimise both revenue and gross margins across our network of stores, by applying logic and analysis to our space plans."

"We are delighted that X5 has selected the JDA Category Management solution this is a very strategic win for us as we focus on gaining momentum in our go-to-market activities in Russia," said Razat Gaurav, JDA Senior Vice President, EMEA. "By defining and enforcing a set of merchandising and space planning rules across X5's supermarkets, hypermarkets and soft discount stores, JDA will support optimised revenues and profits based on intelligent space planning policies and results-oriented business practices."
