Ortec extends global agreement with Navteq

Navteq, the global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, location-based services and mobile advertising around the world, has extended its relationship with advanced planning and fleet optimisation specialist, Ortec. The contract between the two companies will run until 2013 and now includes additional content.

Products such as Navteq Traffic Patterns and Navteq Transport are included in the agreement. The latter provides the transportation and logistics industries with accurate truck-specific attributes and content which can be used in a range of applications such as routing, fleet optimisation and navigation.

Navteq Traffic Patterns is a comprehensive database of information which gives drivers the information they need to decide when and how to avoid congested areas and enables a more accurate estimated time of arrival.

Ortec, which won the 2009 Dutch Logistics Award for its contribution to improving the efficiency of logistics processes through intelligent planning solutions, has been using Navteq digital map data for the last decade. "We need detailed map data globally for our routing and scheduling software and NAVTEQ is a clear leader in the field," explained Theodoor Torn, Ortec Product Manager. "The company continues to innovate with new products and we plan to further leverage new technology to specifically benefit those companies managing fleet operations in urban and congested areas."

Over 150,000 trucks worldwide rely on Ortec routing solutions in a range of industries including consumer packaged goods; oil, gas and chemicals; transport and logistics; and professional and public services.

"Ortec and Navteq have a common goal in developing and enabling solutions which can generate higher levels of efficiency and cost savings for fleet management operations. While Ortec will continue to use Navteq global data in its logistic and optimisation solutions, its implementation of Navteq Traffic Patterns is really exciting as we believe it will represent a significant step forward," added Peter Beaumont, customer marketing director Enterprise EMEA, Navteq.
