X2 Computing, one of the UKs fastest growing providers of mobile computing solutions, has announced the immediate availability of the X2390, a new widescreen tablet PC that integrates a high visibility touch display and high performance processing power.

It will enhance productivity in a wide range of point of sale and point of service applications including retail, gaming, logistics, field service, healthcare, manufacturing and hospitality.

The X2390 series is based on the new Intel Atom processor, Z530 1.6GHz and is compatible with a range of operating systems including Microsoft Windows XP Embedded, XP Professional or Linux enabling it to be easily integrated into any environment.  It is IP54 rated and features a brilliant 300 nit 8.9 TFT LCD screen, 50% brighter than other systems, with resistive touch for easy operation.  An outdoor-viewable option is available if required.  The system also includes integrated magnetic stripe and RFID readers as well as a range of wireless networking formats including Gobi 2000 3G for GSM and GPRS networks.

According to Francis Davis, Managing Director of X2 Computing:  This is an exciting development in the field of tablet computing.  The X2390 is the first in a family of wide screen rugged and semi-rugged tablets ranging in size from 5 to 11 that will be thinner, brighter and more customizable in terms of features than ever before enabling customers to specify systems to meet their precise requirement from low cost gaming devices through to high-end field service terminals.

The X2390 also has an on-screen soft keyboard and an optional 3 mega-pixel camera with auto-focus and exposure.  It is packaged in a slim and durable casing measuring 196mm(h) x 256mm(w) x 32mm(d) and.  It is also extremely lightweight weighing just 1.1kg including an extended life battery pack that provides 6-7 hours operation, with optional external snap-on batteries that can extend its use indefinitely, depending on the applications in use.

A comprehensive suite of options are available for the X2390 including docking and mounting accessories, battery management and a wide range of POS-centric applications.
