Intermec CN3 chosen by Hermes

Hermes, the UK home delivery courier company, has selected the Intermec CN3 mobile computer to support its nationwide network of lifestyle couriers. Formerly Parcelnet, the parcel delivery firm will equip up to 7,500 couriers with the CN3 to improve efficiency, customer service, and provide new services for Hermes customers across the UK.

Intermec collaborated with Blackbay in tailoring the Delivery Connect application for intelligent routing of deliveries and collections, barcode scanning and real-time electronic proof of delivery improving customer service and reducing administration. The solution also supports a new delivery service - myHermes - for private individuals, including EBay traders, that communicates real-time delivery status and collections via the myHermes web portal. The Barcode Warehouse will be responsible for the provisioning and overall support of the mobility solution.

This project is a key element of Hermes strategic plan within the UK that will significantly increase the level of service and choice we can deliver to our customers, said Carole Woodhead, CEO of Hermes in the UK. We have worked closely with our technology partners to develop an advanced mobile solution that will accurately and efficiently capture last mile delivery information to enhance customer service and drive efficiencies across our business.

Hermes, the home delivery business of the Otto Group, has been expanding its strategic investment in IT and infrastructure including the CN3 deployment. The companys lifestyle courier business model is acknowledged by the home shopping industry as providing the most flexible and effective last-mile home delivery service for catalogue and Internet retailers such as Next Directory, QVC and Lands End.

We are delighted to announce that Hermes has chosen Intermec solutions to help them deliver exceptional service to their customers, said Intermec President and CEO Pat Byrne. "Intermec's partner ecosystem which combines custom solutions and services together with our products can make a significant difference and Hermes can be assured that their new mobile solution will play a major part in helping them to deliver their growing range of services to their customers and will support them in streamlining their business processes.

Hermes plans to complete the CN3 deployment by the end of September 2009.
