PSI has implemented its production management system PSImetals Peiner Trgers electro-steel plant in Peine.
As a producer of structural steel for the offshore industry and bridges, mining and tunnels, Peiner Trger intends to further customise its product range for their customers and consequently aims to increase the flexibility of the production. As a leading system in the steel mill, PSImetals will reportedly assure the system-optimised operations of the steel production. Simultaneously, the PSI solution controls and documents the production process and allows the use of qualitative and economic potentials in the process.
The process control system for the steel mill is based on the PSImetals components Production Execution Systems (PES). Precise instructions are given for every production step and the process is followed and documented. Peiner Trger expects the improved degree of automation to result in greater transparency and traceability as well as quality assurance and improvement through standardised production processes and extensive analytic possibilities. Cost reductions will be obtained by means of the functions for evaluating the materials used and the resource management. In connection with the PSImetals planning solution already being employed, the internal logistics will be improved by optimising all the sequences in the system and the transportation routes.
The decision in favour of PSImetals as steel mill control system completes our overall IT design for production at the Peine site, because we already plan both of the rolling mills with PSImetals. In the future we will have a cross-system planning and production control system with uniform data and be able to employ a greater degree of automation. The higher degree of configurability was also important for our users in the steel plant. Whether in the daily operations, the introduction of new qualities of steel, modifications in manufacturing processes or the integration of new aggregates all the necessary changes can be made independently by us with the configuration, explains Arndt Wlfing, Head of Information Technology at Peiner Trger.
The connection to and integration with PSImetals production planning and the other associated systems such as SAP, laboratory systems, basic automation and material tracking systems in the rolling mill are handled by PSIintegration. The system will be implemented and put into operation in stages; productive system operation is planned for mid 2010.
The Peiner Trger GmbH is, as a long-steel producer, a part of the Steel business of the Salzgitter AG steel technology group. The entire process of structural steel production from the electro-steel mill to the continuous casting plants to the mill and the finishing lines is handled by the Peine site. The product range includes standard structural steel as well as offshore, pit and tempered steels for the highest demands.
