Datalogic Mobile ties up deal at TieRack

Keeping track of actual stock held in the stores is critical for the success of TieRack and the company decided it was time to purchase handheld computers so that store staff could do a blind count of all stock held in the store on any given date.

Data from the stock take would then be sent to the London head office and could be compared with EPOS till data as well as previous or subsequent stock takes for that store; providing pinpoint data at the lowest level of detail.

The company approached Datalogic Mobile in September 2008 and expressed the desire to have all their global stores (including other retails brands such as Rolling Luggage) equipped by October.  With only weeks from the green light to go, Datalogic partners Sanderson and Portech Systems rapidly developed the stock take software for Tie Rack, loaded this on some 150 Datalogic Memor pocket computers and despatched these to TieRack locations in the UK and rest of the world.  While the short timescales led to the inevitable hiccups, all Tie Rack stores completed their stock takes in October and successfully sent the data back to London.  An impressive feat taking into account that the stock count was spread across 24 countries with many language, currency and stock differences as well as multiple POS platforms and limited regional support.

John Brien, Head of Merchandising at Tie Rack comments We selected the Datalogic Memor because of its ergonomic size and ability to readily scan bar code tags on our products and overall value proposition as a sustainable and scaleable stocktake solution.  My team spent considerable time working with Sanderson and Portech to mobilise the counts.  Thankfully the team work paid off with all the data back safely.  We now have the opportunity to correct any minor flaws working with the personalised software team at Portech and have subsequently  purchased further Memors for the next global stock take in February 2009.

The Datalogic Memor has been selected by a wide range of retailers in the UK and is ideally suited to in-store applications such as stock control, price verification, price mark down, and order entry.   The compact pocket terminal has a colour touch screen, built in laser scanner, and latest Windows operating system.  Communications from the Memor can be via cable or cradle using USB, RS232 or Ethernet as well as wireless options over 802.11 b/g or Bluetooth.  A SD card slot is built in for both security as well as storage of applications and captured data.
