UPS Supply Chain Solutions is the latest 3PL to sign up for the CarrierNetOnline (CNO), Software as a Service solution (SaaS), logistics management service. The solution will initially be deployed in the UK UPS-SCS division to manage primary distribution operations to retail clients.
Piyush Shah (pictured), CEO of Deltion which provides the CNO service, said that UPS-SCS, after exhaustive market research, had opted for the functionally rich service from CarrierNetOnline. "Using CNO, UPS-SCS will manage its primary distribution tramping operation, including overnight stops, trailer swaps, pick ups from suppliers and deliveries to retail distribution centres." UPS-SCS has also chosen to take full advantage of CNO's detailed routing and planning optimisation engine, including the link to Google Maps, in order to give advanced planning capability.
A key feature is the ability of drivers to utilise their current mobile phones for communications, including visibility of trip run-sheet and drop manifest details, POD confirmation and reporting of time, position and on-route delays. "This enables CNO to automatically generate alerts to the operations managers warning that there could be an issue arising later in the journey. "Where there is no network coverage, the phone automatically sends the information immediately it enters a network area" Mr Shah said.
